OpenSocial Hackathons All Over The Asia Pacific.

I read on the APAC Developer blog that OpenSocial Hacking Storm is taking place all over the Asia Pacific region. There will be three 3 OpenSocial hackathons taking place, simultaneously in Vietnam, Singapore, and Australia. And the orgnizers think that there could be as many as 100 developers. The Vietnam and Singapore groups will focus on creating applications to be submitted to the OpenSocial contest for Southeast Asia. The Austrailian group will be creating iGoogle applications.
According the same blog, Singapore slots are all full but there might be a chance in getting a place in Hanoi (Vietnam) or Sidney (Austrailia) groups af you act hastly.
eXo Platform, WebPal Networks, and e27 have been great supporters of the event.

Then Next week the OpenSocial Hackathons will go to China and the venues will be Beijing (12/16) and Shanghai (12/18). The people in China could register here.

There will also be an OpenSocial hackathon for developers in Japan on 12/18. If you'd like to register, you can do so here. This event will feature OpenSocial partners MySpace Japan and Recruit.

Google Friend Connect Brings OpenSocial, Social Networking To Any Site Without Programming.

We all create websites wishing to attract visitors. Some may have millions of pageviews and yet only will have only a few hundred pageviews a day. But we continue providing content hoping to attrct more visitors. Even websites that are not social networks are based on being social social. But the barriers to offering true social applications on sites have been huge until now. Google Friend Connect changes the landscape by offering Social Gadgets created by Google and OpenSocial developers. Now web developers and web site owners can offer these gadgets on their sites without having to delve into whole new development ball game. This means more visitors spending more time on a more engaging website and the exposure in connected sites as well, all these with absolutely no programming required to make it happen. I think and say Bring it on, I will take it!

Yahoo Gets Social, Joins to Create OpenSocial Foundation.

I have been one with OpenSocial since it's creation by Google. And I am happy to see that it had grown further and has attracted big Internet players like Yahoo. They also announced the OpenSocial Foundation that I think everyone should take a look at. This is setting standards to social networking that are very similar to standards that were set for Email applications. You know which players are the big email providers today, and they all followed standards. I was even voicing today that Thunderbird as a social networking tool of the future.
There are three big players in the foundation now, namely Google, MySpace and Yahoo.The OpenSocial Foundation is expected to be formed within 90 days, with more OpenSocial partners from across the Web on board in addition to the three responsible for the announcement. "to ensure the neutrality and longevity of OpenSocial as an open, community-governed specification for building social applications across the Web."

"Today we're pleased that Yahoo! has announced its support for OpenSocial. We're looking forward to having Yahoo! users join the hundreds of millions of people who will soon enjoy OpenSocial applications. MySpace Gives You YourSpace WIth MySpace Developer Portal

Since they announced and as expected , MySpace has launched a new site and released code that will allow developers to build applications around the MySpace API. This will allow individual applications a use MySpace service and/or provide services to MySpace.

The new MySpace Developer Platform site will let developers build and test applications for a month in a live environment before the applications become public in March.

The site includes Google OpenSocial with MySpace extensions to enable JavaScript and HTML; action scripts that allow Flash to communicate directly with MySpace APIs; and Representational State Transfer, or REST, APIs to speed up applications.

I in the process of testing some of the demo applications provided by MySpace Developer team and the dream has my brain on it.

After writing, waiting then clicking, writing again, then clickng and waiting again, finally the API site and the OpenSocial Blog is out of the womb for all to see.

MySpace Goes OpenSocial (Aka MySpace is in Google's Fold)

After Opening up OpenSocial APIs and getting Socail Networking websites to join, Google has scored again. This time it has got assurance that MySpace will join the consortium.
It's not entirely surprising, given that Google's ad deal with MySpace, any other business deals, if there are any, the deal is a win for Google's plan to stake out a place on the social Web as well as MySpace to hold on to the it's space against incoming onslaught from Facebook. MySpace recently made a fact with Skype too, to provide VoIP services to MySpaceIM. "OpenSocial is going to become the defacto standard for developers instantly out of the gate," MySpace cofounder Chris DeWolfe declared at a press conference at Google today.
Currently MySpace has 70 million activen users worldwide, still more than Facebook's 51 million.
According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, the two companies have been working together on this fact for more than a year. Most recently, Schmidt met with Peter Chernin, president and chief operating officer of News Corp., to seal the deal. "The Web has moved to its next stage," Schmidt says--the social Web.
Besides MySpace, other sites that have signed up for Google's OpenSocial platform include software distributor Salesforce.com and blogging software firm Six Apart, which runs TypePad and LiveJournal. Application developers who are working with OpenSocial include iLike and Slide, travel site SideStep and payment firm PayPal.
