The European Commission has announced that it is turning to YouTube Inc.'s Web site to disseminate information about the policies and inner workings of the European Union through a new video-sharing channel called EUtube.
The channel bears the tagline "Sharing the Sights and Sounds of Europe." At launch, the showcased video was a 40-second animated cartoon entitled "Everyone Can Save The Planet." Other featured videos include a series called "And if Europe didn't exist ... " as well as a documentary on the troubled Galileo project to build a European satellite navigation system.
'EU Tube' – the Commission's new channel on YouTube was launched on 29 June. The non-exclusive arrangement between the European Commission and YouTube aims to present new and innovative ways of informing people on the activities of the European Union through video clips that illustrate the main issues facing citizens from across the 27 member states.
Currently, users can watch approximately 50 video clips on a wide-range of topics - from the EU's first post-war historical steps to today's need to safeguard the environment and combat climate change.

To begin with, much of the content is in English, but French and German language clips are also being added. Other languages will be added wherever possible.

Unfaithful Social Networking fans are changing Social networking arena!
According to a market research / survey conducted by Parks Associates' Web 2.0 & the New Net, People who frequent these social networks are Network(site)-hopping, widgets & links connecting, and cross-pollinating the entire social networking market.
Consumers are no longer just ‘consuming’ content online but creating, sharing, and organizing. Parks Associates analyzes this phenomenon, cutting through the hype and probing into the heart of the key questions it presents to the industry: Is there money to be made in the Web 2.0 space? How should established players react? Parks Associates delivers its latest consumer data on Web 2.0 trends which illustrate the current adoption and usage patterns.
These trends highlight a peculiar aspect of the market for social networking services. Nearly half of all social networkers regularly use more than one site; one in six use three or more. The result is an increasingly interlinked environment tied together by links, widgets, and the users themselves. “MySpace is a growing ecosystem and one that ironically now extends beyond MySpace itself,” said John Barrett, the lead author of the report.
Parks Associates surveyed a little over 400 social networking users, with a margin of error no better than 5 percent. As a result, the conclusion that one in six social networking users have profiles on three or more sites might be one in five—or as low as one in ten.

The Open Source Initiative is getting tough on any vendors who claim to be open source even if not using a license approved by the OSI. OSI president Michael Tiemann writes: "Enough is enough. Open Source has grown up. Now it is time for us to stand up. I believe that when we do, the vendors who ignore our norms will suddenly recognize that they really do need to make a choice: to label their software correctly and honestly, or to license it with an OSI-approved license that matches their open source label."

BarCamp is becoming a phenomenon everyday that passes! If you did not know what barcamp is ;
"A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. The name BarCamp was inspired as a complement to FooCamp."

But this post is about EASN.de, a site I found due to barcampHamburg. EASN stands for everything a startup needs!. And I guess I need it. Too bad if you cannot understand German but you can always use Google's language tools! I am sure it is worth the effort. There supposed to be a bunch of interviews that will be coming up at easn.de that was done during the barcampHamburg. I am waiting for those eagerly. Further more after going through the site it looks like I need to spend some time at easn.de! My head and projects look like American Car Junk yard!

Tired of all the ads coming up on AIM? Is Yahoo! messenger delivering too little? Perhaps Microsoft IM (Live Messenger) not so alive and knows too much about you/ There are lots and lots of IM clients besides the ones mentioned above. examines and tell you how these applications let you hook into any of these three services, and usually more besides, like Jabber.
Again not all of these applications will offer all of the features you'll find on the big guys—video and voice chat come to mind—but most of them do a good job of unobtrusively keeping you in contact with your comrades. And socially visible. So we can say weseepeople!

Natural selection operates at the level of the individual, with the retention of mutations that benefit that individual. However, current understanding from theoretical ecology suggests that the most important level of organization for a species is the population. That is, communities are more important than the individual, at least in the present day, in maintaining ecological stability. If the processes that drive evolution operate at the level of an individual, but the success is determined at the population level, then evolutionary development can only be effective if individuals are able to interact with other individuals of the same species to ensure the success of the population.
One obvious requirement for concerted action by a population is the need for an individual to be aware of and respond to other individuals of the same species that are growing in the vicinity. For many years it was considered that bacteria were simple organisms, with little capacity for the types of interaction seen in higher organisms. The ability to interact was thought to be confined to metabolic consortia, where one bacterium released a compound as a result of its metabolism that was then the substrate for another species. This second species may or may not release a metabolite that could be used by a third species. This simple mechanism results in stable consortia of different species but it is basically an altruistic process where the activity of one organism results in the success of another species."
