Google Summer of Code 2011, It Is On, Student People, Apply Now!

GSOC or Google Summer Of Code is an event we get to see inventive and innovative people, or students from all over the world. These students, guided by their mentors and supported by Google have brought us new tools and programs over the years. This introduction to Open Source community and to programming itself with stipend from Google (One thing I relally like about Google is their Dollar is a Dollar in USA, India, China or Timbuktu, leveling the playing field.) Over the past 6 years Google Summer of Code has had 4,500 students from over 85 countries complete the program.Some student participants gone into becoming entrepreneurs and other continued their education supported by Google stipend.

Family, How Zach Wahls Sees His, Which Has Two Mothers.

I do not have any problem saying Sach is right and voting his way. I am surprised that we even argue about these issues any longer. Discrimination is not acceptable. Accept people for what they are. I actually love my mother very very much, and I am jealous that Zach can give and receive, twice what I have;)

Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers, and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa.

The fight to to keep marriage equality in Iowa continues, help support Iowans like Zach.

Egyptians Can Tweet Via Landline, Mobile Phone With Call2Tweet From Google and Twitter

WeseePeople like to see hear from all people, but at the moment we would love to hear from Egyptians. The Last Internet connection to the country has gone dark but the mobile and landline phones are still up.
Google and Saynow (a Google Company) together with Twitter has come with a new solution, to provide people in Egypt with capability to Tweet, just with a phone call and leaving a a voice mail. It will be tweeted with #Egypt and a link to listen to the Voicemail. Tweets could be checked out at twitter.com/speak2tweet
It will also be good if someone who knows Egyptian language, translate those messages.
We want to hear you Egypt!

LinkedIn InMaps, Analytical In A Beautiful Way!

LinkedIn which announced about LinkedIn IPO today, is deploying a lot of new features.like LinkedIn Swarm, LinkedIn text ads and my favorite, LinkedIn InMaps from LinkedIn Labs.
The maps allows you to discover your your connections, professional relationships visually in a color coded map. It also let you find out about professional hubs in your network, something which is hard to see textually. There are many other things to be discovered or analyzed using the InMaps. Two conditions govern your use of the maps, You need to have at least 50 connections and 75% of your profile need to be completed. Go travel your InMaps.

French President Sarkozy's Facebook Account Hacked

A hacker has got hold of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s Facebook account and has issued a false statement about the future election plans. The message whicn now has been removed statted;

"Dear compatriots, given the exceptional circumstances our country is experiencing, I have decided in my spirit and conscience not to run for office again at the end of my mandate in 2012"

The spoof message has since been removed, indicating the French President has regained the control of the account.

"My Facebook account was hacked into this evening, perhaps to remind me that no system is infallible, I have noted the writing and spelling lesson, but do not subscribe to the rather hasty conclusions of the message"

7 Billion Reasons To Think About Population Growth, Hint: Strike Out Living Space.

It is expected that the world population will exceed seven billion in 2011. With this in mind National Geographic magazine offers a 7-part series examining specific challenges and solutions to the issues associated with population growth we will be facing now and in the future.
Space will not be a problem because we can fit all 7 billion, standing shoulder to shoulder, in to the greater Los Angeles 
The magazine introduces the series with its January cover story "7 Billion," offering a broad overview of demographic trends that got us to today and will impact us all tomorrow. The first in-depth story will appear in the March issue, focusing on humans' impact on the planet's geology. Other stories will follow throughout 2011.

Iranian People Gets Google Earth, Picasa, Chrome Downloads, But Not The Iranian Government.

We all know how hard people in Iran tried to get their news out when Iranian government blocked any news from flowing out by deporting foreign journalists, shutting down media outlets and even blocking cell phone communications.
But people were able to use services like Twitter, Youtube and other means to get news out. But those same people were unable to use new software like Google Earth, Picasa and Chrome that we have come to rely in day to day use. due to export restrictions.
Some of those restrictions have been lifted and today, Iranian people, but not the Iranian government (Google will continue to block IP addresses associated with the Iranian government) will be able to download Google Earth, Picasa and Chrome

"You guys in AZ are life savers." CDCR Undersecretary Scott Kernan

It is too sick even to imagine how these people think of taking someones life, convicted murderer or otherwise.  The American Civil Liberties Union obtained and released the documents, showing the desperation of  California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials  to secure some sodium thiopental to execute convicted murderer.

You guys in AZ are life savers," Kernan e-mailed Charles Flanagan, Arizona Department of Corrections deputy director. "Buy you a beer next time I get that way."

Americans Are More Social, And Civilly Engaged On The Internet.

The thinking that internet users were bunch of people who were isolated and lacking social skills are fast fading as many of us know and the fact has been confirmed by a study "The Social Side of the Internet" by PEW Internet and American Life Project. The study was based on a survey among American Adults 18 years and older and was conducted in both English and Spanish.
As for social life of people engaged in groups, at a personal level, say the internet has had varying influence over their connection to groups:

    * 53% of the online Americans who are active in groups say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to keep up with news and information about their groups; 30% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 41% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to organize activities for their groups; 33% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 35% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to invite friends to join their groups; 36% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 33% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to find groups that match their interests; 28% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 28% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to create their own groups; 28% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 24% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to volunteer their time to groups; 40% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.
    * 24% of these internet-using active group members say the internet has had a major impact on their ability to contribute money to groups; 34% say the internet has had a minor impact on that.

The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project has found that 75% of all American adults are active in some kind of voluntary group or organization and internet users are more likely than others to be active: 80% of internet users participate in groups, compared with 56% of non-internet users. And social media users are even more likely to be active: 82% of social network users and 85% of Twitter users are group participants.
