Instead of only seeing people around your village or town, now we see people from all over the world, thanks to Internet!. Lev Epshteyn, GME (Google Mashup Editor) Team has written a tutorial about placing your Picasa photos in a Google maps or even in Google Earth. He has done what he teaches with his own Geo tagged photos on Picasa.
